Most people say Prayut govt reliable: Poll | Bangkok Post: news

Most people say the government under Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is generally reliable, although it is unable to solve economic and many other problems, according to an opinion survey conducted by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, or Suan Dusit Poll. The poll was carried out on Oct 3-8 on 1,287 people throughout the country. Asked how much the Prayut government can be relied on, 40.56% of the respondents said the government is moderately reliable because of its determination to solve the country's problems and the prime minister is decisive, while 20.51% said it is fully reliable because it has taken concrete steps to eradicate corruption and re-arrange social order. However, 24.01% of the respondents said they can rely a little on the government because the country's conflicts and economic problems have not been solved, while 14.92% said they cannot rely on it at all because it is unelected and plagued with negative reports including over alleged misappropriation of funds. On factors which they think have hurt the government's reliability, 78.09 mentioned its inability to solve economic problems; 67.6% its inability to bring about reconciliation; 55.94% its frequent use of Section 44 of the constitution, causing injustice and damaging the country's image; and 50.35% its lack of transparency and justice and inability to withstand criticism and pressure from various groups.
